The National Assembly is a lawmaking body in Nigeria, with two arms of upper chamber (Senate) and Lower Chamber (House of Representatives),with a total number of four hundred and fifty nine(459) illustrious sons and daughters as members of the National Assembly, with 350 members in the House of Representatives and 109 in the Senate.
Year in year out,Laws and bills have been made and sponsored for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians courtesy of the National Assembly and it's constitutional right and obligations.
Having visited the Complex of the highest lawmaking body in Nigeria weeks ago and from my findings, research and enquiries about some lawmakers and the National Assembly politics,this and many other issues have triggered by burning love and unalloyed support for the current Member,Representing Abak Federal Constituency in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, Mr Emmanuel Ekon who by Gods grace is the Chairman House Committee on Local Content.
In my four days sojourn and findings about the National Assembly Politics, i have understood that the place is not where 'boys' should dream of going, it is not a place where we feel we can play the politics we play in our home state of Akwa Ibom, it needs courage,charisma,integrity and God's grace for any lawmaker to take anything home even a pin,well many believe that,it is a game played at home as usual,I will advise that Federal Constituencies should not just send any kind of person/lawmaker to the National Assembly for any reason, test running and proper findings should be done if such a person can ever bring back anything home talk less of himself after completing four years of one term ,two,three,four as the case maybe,hence we need an experienced lawmaker with capacity and dexterity to stand up and challenge the Northerners and the majority in this county.
Away from that,in my interview with one of the accomplished lawmakers Akwa Ibom has in the present National Assembly and the Current Member for Itu and Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Dr Henry Archibong who is described in the green Chambers as the ''Uncommon Doctor'' for his effective representation,in our interview with the ITU born Lawmaker,Dr.Archibong gave us an insight into the National Assembly Politics which will interest some person(s) about what is obtainable in the Assembly Politics of yesterday, today and forever, according to him ''National Assembly Politics requires consistent lobbying,hence it needs someone to be returned to the assembly up to two,three,four times and even more for any lawmaker to take anything home after his representation,that is why Northeners and Westerners hold juicy positions than us,Delta State have Chairman Committee on Petroleum and Cross River State have Niger Delta Affairs because they have been in the Assembly for years and have understood the terrain and politics here and hence be recognized in several positions of authority, he also pleaded with his Party and the State Government to give National Assembly members another opportunity to return in order for them to bring back more things for the state come 2019 election''
After hearing from this erudite lawmaker,Dr.Archibong and from my findings, I decided to take it upon myself to educate some person(s) what is obtainable in the Legislative arm of Government at the Federal level, which is not a child's play.
Coming back home,the issue of who represents Abak Federal Constituency in the green chamber of the National Assembly is crystal clear and needs intelligence for a prudent and erudite lawmaker to represent the area and take it to an eldarado in the committee of Constituencies in the world.
Having served meritoriously and effectively from 2011 till date,one will be forced to conclude and persuade the incumbent lawmaker, Hon Ekon to re contest for the House of Representatives position come 2019 and with the political tempo heating up where groups have come out to canvass for support for their representatives to be re elected in various capacities, such has been seen in Abak federal constituency as youths, elders and women have come out unanimously to plead with Hon. Emman Ekon to re contest,though the lawmaker has not mentioned to anyone of his intentions come 2019,he is presently focused and engaged with his legislative business for his beloved constituency, maybe as the voice of the people is the voice of God,our almighty creator will touch the heart of our uncommon legislator to accent to the cry of his people and come to their aid again when the time is right.
Having seen the monumental achievements of Mr Ekon, groups such as Vision 2019,Stakeholders from the constituency and lots more have indicated interest for the re election of Mr Ekon having studied the politics of the National Assembly and found him worthy for another robust term of legislative engagement.
With the achievements of Mr Ekon in the last six years,many has wondered what his monumental achievements will be if given another term of legislative business,positions like Speaker,Deputy Speaker, Leader of the House, Chief Whip and lots more can be ours if we understand the importance of politics beyond sentiment, Local Government Area and zoning arrangement,after all the North also have an arrangement, the south has the same even the West and East but putting this issues aside and embracing competence and effectiveness has made them more productive,more effective,more popular and has held many positions better than us.
It behooves on us to have this in mind and encourage vibrancy, continuity and effectiveness beyond what we see and understand that we stand to benefit a lot from this amiable and vibrant son of ours,Mr Ekon who has made us proud, one will wonder and ask,if a new person is sent,what do we stand to benefit,for he will not be able to understand the politics of the National Assembly in four years as we think,but if we can join hands to support someone that understands the terrain, he will do more and bring more goodies back home.
Myself and other well meaning sons,daughters and lovers of Abak Federal Constituency will continue to plead with Hon.Emmanuel Ekon to come to our plight and re contest come 2019 for with him,God is with us in Abak Federal Constituency and Akwa Ibom State,for with him we are sure of having a voice and quality representation in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly!
