Make Sure You Marry Your Sister/Brother - By P. Ezekiel Atang

Song of Solomon‬ ‭4:9-10, 12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬

“You have ravished my heart, My sister, my spouse; You have ravished my heart With one look of your eyes, With one link of your necklace. How fair is your love, My sister, my spouse! How much better than wine is your love, And the scent of your perfumes Than all spices! A garden enclosed Is my sister, my spouse, A spring shut up, A fountain sealed.”

Today's message is both to the married and the single. Every single person must see to it that they marry their sister or brother.

And if you are already married, you must see to it that you graduate the relationship between you and your spouse to the brother/sister level. The reasons are as follows:

i. You must make sure that you and your spouse share the same father or the marriage may not stand much chance. God is our Heavenly Father and if one of you is not evidently and ‘submittedly’ fathered by Him, then He can have no form of control in his or her life.

ii. Among the four kinds of love, the brotherly love or philadelphia is what lasts longer. Phileo is friendship love and can end at any time.

Eros love is sexual love and is only on fire for sex purposes and nothing more, and so it is not reliable at all. Then there is agape love, which is God's love, and it is unconditional in nature.

This is the best form of love, but the problem with it is that when people backslide from the faith and from God, it could die a natural death as well. The only love that continues in all circumstances is philadelphia or brotherly love (Hebrews 13:1).

It is a kind of love determined by blood. According to the scripture, ‘a brother is born for adversity and not for fair weather. (Proverbs 17:17)

iii. All the detailed recorded marriages in the Bible had people marrying their sisters one way or another. Abraham married his sister, Isaac married his sister as well, and then Jacob married his sister too. These three men married from within the family, thus giving us a picture of things to come.

Whatever was biological or natural in the Old Testament was to be spiritual or supernatural in the New Testament. Meaning that we are to marry our spiritual sisters and brothers.

iv. Here is what our text was trying to say; no one can become your spouse that had not first been your sister or brother.

In all the times, the word spouse was mentioned, there was never a time the word sister did not come first.

If your spouse is not yet a brother or sister, let that be your goal from now on. Pray and help them get saved and to grow in God.

Then, the family dimension will show up in your marriage. If you are single, don't even think of marrying anyone who is not your brother or sister.

Marry well in Jesus Name.

Assignment

i. Begin the process of helping your spouse get saved and discipled from today.

ii. Re-evaluate your current relationship if you are single, and see if the person you want to marry is a brother or sister indeed.

iii. Ask God to put the convictions in your heart and to show you the signs.

Prayer

-Lord I apply for the grace and the wisdom that will enable me make a brother or sister out of my spouse in Jesus Name.

-Lord please never allow me marry anyone who is not a true brother or sister in Jesus Name.

Nugget
If your spouse is not yet a brother or sister, let that be your goal from now on; pray and help them get saved and to grow in God.
