He said, “as a government we believe security is everybody’s responsibility, especially in terms of intelligence gathering, providing useful information, even in building security infrastructure and architecture.”

He further stated that it is not enough to leave the task of maintaining peace and security to the government or law enforcement agencies alone.

The Governor therefore urged everyone to view security as a larger issue, particularly in respect to keeping an eye on the larger infrastructure provided for the common good of the community.

Decrying the rate at which people in rural areas vandalize infrastructural facilities provided for the common good of the community, His Excellency admonished that as part of securing our environment, “we must be our brother’s keeper, appreciate and do all we can to protect the infrastructure provided to aid our socio-economic wellbeing.

If you notice anyone making any attempt to tamper with a transformer or any facility meant for communal benefit, it is your duty to alert the authorities of security agencies.”

The Governor’s representative told the gathering that the Government is determined to work hard to change the face of the State and ensure Oro nation benefits maximally from this Government through provision of good roads and other key infrastructures would enhance the economic life of the State.

He said the government was providing industries to provide jobs for the youth, stressing that the government is making serious efforts to ensure actualization of the Ibaka Deep Sea Port Project.

In his words, he said “we believe the future of Akwa Ibom State lies in industrialization and diversification of the flanks of the economy.

We are also pursuing a programme of political inclusion; we want everyone to come on board, join hands and drive the wheels of governance for the progress of Akwa Ibom State.”

Chairman at the occasion, Mr. Eneminyi Edet Enemi, thanked the Governor for his concern for Oro nation. He expressed optimism that with the inauguration of the Association, peaceful co-existence and social stability will be achieved in the various communities of Oro nation.

Mr. Enemi also urged the group to help guard against hooliganism and make efforts to maintain good partnership with security agencies in the State.

He also called on all well-meaning sons and daughters of Oro to join hands with the association to restore the peace Oro used to be known for, adding that when peace thrives, progress will thrive, especially the industrialization agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The newly sworn in National Chairman of the Association, Comrade Asukwo ita Uweh, thanked the Governor for honouring the invitation of the association.
