Education Decadence: Onofiok Luke Mentorship hub kicks off special intervention

The Onofiok Luke Mentorship Hub has launched a special educational intervention scheme codenamed "Adopt a School Project" with pilot outreach at St Victor's Catholic School, Ikot Ubo, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.


The hub which is made up of young leadership mentees of the speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke, in its bid to support schools especially in rural areas on aspects where interventions are most needed, in view to assist the state government in the free and compulsory education policy.

At St Victor's Catholic School, Ikot Ubo, the team, led by its coordinator and Special Assistant to the speaker on research, Mr Nsemeke Ekanem, was welcomed by the school's headmistress, Mrs Akpaitam who introduced the team to the entire pupils of the school.

High points of the outreach included mini lecture on civic responsibilities, personal hygiene, person safety, leadership and gender sensitivity.

On civic responsibilities, the pupils were informed of the need to lead a responsible life by being law abiding, respectful to national symbols and leaders and avoiding trouble by all means, as future leaders that they are.

They were also advised on simple healthy living through proper hygiene, in order not to contract diseases or other health threats.

Similarly, the pupils equally got enlightenment on safety tips at home, school, road and other relevant places that demand personal safety. Leadership and gender sensitivity talks, exposed the pupils to the basics of good leadership and fellowship, and due respect to gender equality.

Further, indignant pupils who were found without school uniform and sandals, or wore torn uniforms were taken care of. Exercise books and AKEES pencils were also shared to the pupils amidst jubilation and appreciation, as the coordinator was on hand to present gift items to some pupils who answered questions posed to them.

Speaking after the exercise, the headmistress expressed deep appreciation to the team for the benevolence and specially thanked Speaker Onofiok Luke for electing to raise young minds who are who have interest in community development. She added that the visit was very significant to them and was grateful that her pupils were all impacted positively.

The Adopt a School Project launch was able supported by Activities Farm, whose CEO is a young agro entrepreneur and mentee of the speaker. Also, in a statement by the coordinator, the project is just started and shall continue in its mission to assist schools in areas of great needs within the strength of Its resources.

The project is independently sponsored by the mentees, who contribute finances and other resources to undertake the mission.
