Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.
Barr Onofiok Luke, has appreciated the Nigerian Pulse Newspaper for
being effective in the coverage of the state legislature.
He gave the
commendation, Monday in his office when the management and editorial
team of the newspaper house paid a courtesy visit on him in his office.
''Let me appreciate Nigerian Pulse Newspaper for objective reportage and vast cover gate of the activities in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. I appreciate your newspaper for that support.
I will take seriously that hand of support that you have extended to us".
I appreciate once again your helping us push our legislative agenda by amplifying what we are doing for the reading public. I am happy the Nigerian Pulse Newspaper has been able to weather the storm''.
Barr. Luke use the opportunity to urge the newspaper house to use its medium to create awareness that would enable farmers appreciate the need the need to access agricultural extension projects and programmes of the state government which falls under the Ministry of Agriculture, noting that such sensitization would enable the government to realise her set objective in agricultural sector.
He hinted the team of the forthcoming 25th anniversary celebration of the state legislature which would be announced soon, and restated the resolve of the current assembly to partner the media in highlighting the activities and achievements of the state parliament.
Earlier, the Publisher at large of the newspaper, Mr. Uko Umoh, who is currently an aide to the governor on local media, thanked the Speaker for his media friendly disposition, making reference to the recent capacity building workshop for Assembly Reporters which held in Eket, Mr. Commended the Barr. Luke for sponsoring Journalists covering the House and also for procuring gadgets to aid them in their reportage of the legislature.
Briefing the Speaker, the Editor-in-chief, Mr. Kufre Etuk, said the team was in his office to formally register appreciation to the Speaker for according the news medium an enabling environment to operate in the
Assembly.
He explained that the newspaper has weathered the storm over the years to keep the public informed of government programmes and activities, saying the House of Assembly has also benefitted immensely from the newspapers reportage.
"Nigerian Pulse has over the years stood by the government of the day, and also projected the activities and programmes of government of the day ".
Mr. Kufre informed that the newspaper would soon launch an online platform in response to the demands of its numerous reading public, who have been agitating for an online version of Nigerian Pulse.
He disclosed that the online platform would complement the print medium, noting that the aim was tailored towards widening the readership of Nigerian Pulse.
The Editor hailed Barr. Luke for surrounding himself with a good media manager and speech writer in the person of his Press Secretary, Mr. Kufre Okon, observing that in spite of the good performance of former President Goodluck Jonathan while in office, his media team messed him, because according to him "he only had a good speech writer," and never had a good media manager.
"Mr. Speaker you have a good speech writer and a good media manager in the person of Kufre Okon ".
He assured of the commitment of Nigerian Pulse Newspaper in upholding the ethics of the Journalism profession at all times by being objective in its reportage of the legislature .
Present during the courtesy call was the Deputy Leader of the House, and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Okon.
The newspaper Editor, Mr. Kufre Etuk was accompanied on the visit by his former boss and Publisher at large, Mr. Uko Umoh, reporters including, Mr. Otobong Nsekpong, House of Assembly correspondent for the newspaper, Mrs. Victoria Anietie, Enwongoabasi Elisha, Imo Etukuko, and Fortune.
