If there is anything that occupies the mind of the Senior Special
Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Technical Matters and Due
Process, Elder Ufot Ebong today, is it how to interpret the laudable
vision of Governor Udom Emmanuel of taking our youths off the street
through the Dakkada Philosophy and how to explore the agricultural
potentials of the State to rescue it from the current economic downturn and turn around it's fortunes.
Beyond tapping into these to ensure the State becomes the food basket
of the Nation through massive agricultural outputs, the Governor has
gone a step further by establishing an agricultural platform known as
AKEES - Akwa Ibom Enterprise and Employment Scheme and appointed an
intelligent man as Coordinator.
Through AKEES, the government has
brought massive employment to the youths of the State and reawakened the
spirit of enterprise, inline with his agenda.
However, many
youths, outs growers and offs takers, interested individuals and
corporate bodies to get actively involved in agriculture. The mandate of
AKEES was to reawaken the spirit of enterprise and create jobs to the
populace.
As the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel is
celebrating two years in office, one can make bold to say that Akwa Ibom
State leads as the number one vegetable crops producer in the country.
This is not only seen in the reduction of cost of vegetables items in
our market but it has a reaction chain of creating enormous jobs for the
teeming unemployed youths in the country, and turned around the revenue
base of the State.
The overall objectives of creating millions
of jobs across the agricultural value chain and turning the State into
the food hub of the country are thus being pursued vigorously by the
Coordinator, Elder Ufot Ebong.
In all modesty, as Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel is
marking two years in office, he deserves commendation for AKEES
initiative and for investing great energy enthusiasm and technical
support towards the successes of the Agricultural Revolution in the
State.
