UNDERSTANDING FAMILY PATTERNS

Deuteronomy‬ ‭5:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

“Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.”

According to the Webster dictionary a pattern is the regular and repeated way in which something happens or is done.

There are patterns in families, and some are good while others are bad or negative. Positive family patterns explain why a father would be highly successful, and then you see the same success trait replicate itself in the man’s third, fourth, fifth generation and even beyond. All of this could happen with very minimum effort of Labour.

Negative patterns are also real; they explain why a man fails and then the failure pattern repeats itself in his many generations thereafter, despite their very hard work and labour.

One easy way to identify negative family patterns is what I call "common denominators".

It is a situation where you see one or two similar occurrences in members of the same family, and literarily sparing no one, or exempting anyone.

In some situations, it is possible to see generations experience divorce at least once or twice in each family.

Patterns can present themselves as failure at the verge of breakthrough, and others can be barrenness, etc.

Someone may want to tell me that this does not affect believers and so on. This is true in principle, but doesn't mean that there are no believers who suffer from these problems. Every challenge is first solved by problem identification.

If you are not observant enough to notice these patterns in the first place, then you would have fallen into the category of those that are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

It is only when you identify these patterns that you can now make a search of your privileges in Christ Jesus and then confront the problems with all that is in your spiritual arsenal.

Don’t just watch things happen to you, rather seek to know if such a thing has a pattern in your extended family, and then launch an attack from every possible angle to stop it in Jesus Name.

Assignment

i. Make a note of all the things that seem to frustrate you in any area.

ii. Do a research of family members, and see if anyone has similar challenges and how many, and in what pattern. This will help you know how to approach the matter.

iii. Seek for all that God had provided in scripture and use them to exempt and exonerate yourself from such patterns.

Prayer

-Lord I stand upon the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus, and I cut myself off from all demonic implications in my family in Jesus Name.

-Lord I declare that I am what You said in your word that I am in Jesus Name.

-I am different and I am only subject to the word of God. I am ‘uncurseable’ in Jesus Name.

Nugget

If you are not observant enough to notice these patterns, then you would have fallen into the category of those that are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
