Genesis 27:1-4 KJV
“And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim,
so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto
him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I. And he said,
Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death: Now therefore
take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to
the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I
love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee
before I die.”
While there are generational curses there are also
generational blessings as well. People through their misdeeds and
carelessness end up implicating an entire family in curses, such that
for many generations, they labour in vain.
Why don’t we then
deliberately and intentionally cause a pattern of blessings the way it
was in the family of Abraham. He gave all to Isaac, which we know was
the blessing (Genesis 25:5).
Isaac did not become careless, he too made
sure the blessing passed on to the next man in the line, which was Esau,
even though Jacob ended up receiving the blessing. But thank God Esau
insisted on his blessing as well, (Genesis 27).
There are various ways to get this done, and I will share a few with you today.
i. Banish curse words from your life and vocabulary: Especially when
you are angry and upset, instead of saying "you this foolish child";
rather say "you this blessed child, do you know you are blessed, and
that you are not supposed to do foolish things?" etc. This will have a
constructive effect on the child’s life.
ii. Make sure you lay
hands on your children each day before they go to school or any other
time you dim fit and bless them: Never be tired of blessing your
children.
My father used to pray a prayer for us all, just before we
took off for church, (which we attended six days out of seven). He would
pray that God would bless us and make us blessings that day.
It was a
regular prayer in his mouth, and I grew up praying that prayer a whole
lot; it is a part of me today.
I bless my children before they go to
school and I would ask God to make them the head and not the tail, above
only and not beneath, in front and not behind, the best and not the
least, etc.
Just a couple of days ago, I asked my wife and children to
pray for me just before Lagos marriage school started, and I heard one
of my sons shouting "father bless him, make him the head and not the
tail". etc. He was declaring the exact same words, and he got it from
his daddy. It is now a pattern in his spirit.
iii. Teach your
children what to do to be blessed: Teach them how to tithe, teach them
to bless the less privileged, teach them to be respectful to their
elders, teach them to pray for the sick, teach them to bless and give to
their pastor, teach them to give to you too, and then bless them for
it, etc.
During my 45th birthday this year some children in our church
came to me on their own, and gave me some envelopes with all manner of
drawings on them.
Some of them even attempted to draw a picture of me.
When I got home, I opened these envelopes and I was moved to tears by
the prayer these children offered for me in writing.
They were so
explosive and powerful that I decided to keep those letters for another
45 years, all so I could remind God about the prayers of these little
children for me. They must have learnt it from their parents and also
from the church.
Establish a pattern of blessing in your home from today in Jesus Name.
