The Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke, says the state legislature is satisfied with the performance of Governor Udom Emmanuel so far in the past 2 years on the saddle.
Barr. Luke who conveyed the minds of the 26 members of the House of Assembly, stated this on Monday while delivering a good will message during the occasion of Nigeria’s 18th democracy day celebration and 2 years in office of Governor Udom Emmanuel held at Uyo Township stadium.
Flanked by members of the House, Speaker Luke who thanked Akwa Ibom people for being supportive to the current administration, described the governor's achievement within two years as superlative.
He reassured Governor Emmanuel of the continuous support of the House of Assembly to enable him fulfill his campaign promises to the people of the state. The Speaker urged the governor to remain focused in his industrialization agenda.
Making reference to the recent investment index released by the National Bureau of Statistics, and a federal government agency which ranked Akwa Ibom second after Lagos as the second most viable state for investors, Barr. Luke reasoned that the report was an indication that the governor was on course in his avowed determination to make the state an industrial haven.
The Head of the legislature in the state reechoed the decision of the legislature to support the governor for a second term to enable him consolidate on his achievements.
Reacting to recent news in certain quarters over a coup attempt, the Speaker urged the Chief of Army staff and the federal government to ensure that who ever is found culpable is prosecuted to serve as deterrent.
"Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is saying that anybody who has been found guilty in what the army chief said recently, should be prosecuted. When military incursion happens, the legislature suffers ".
Barr. Luke also congratulated the federal government and the people of Nigeria on 18 years of unbroken democratic governance in the country.
