The award recipient of “Utuenikang Ndito Ufok Nwed Nsit Ubium” meaning
the lamb of Nsit Ubium students, Rt Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke on Friday,
28th April 2017 took time to enlighten the cross section of students
body under the umbrella of National Association of Nsit Ubium Students,
NANUS Worldwide at the council hall, Ikot Edibon.
The speaker decried the lost of respect he was taught as a child, noting that such character has disappeared in the society, he frown at the point young able men and women refuse to help the elderly one if seeing them carrying fire wood.
The speaker who draws his admonition from the biblical quotation, Ephesians 6:1-3 that says “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth”, caution the students to respect the authority that be and the elderly people that are in the society for their days to be long in the land.
After receiving the award he took his time and recount his story that as a child he did not born with silver spoon. He took his time to encourage the students to read not to pass the exam only but they should read to know what they are studying.
“I was always taught to respect the elders, I was taught not to look at the elders while talking, don’t see me as a political activist but see me as your brother and mentor, what will make your studentship stand is for you to make research, use your internet services to do research not to watch porn and playing games, read beyond passing exam, read beyond only obtaining paper qualification, above all cultism will lead you to anywhere, allow not your selves to be deceived that it will give you connection, build network of good friends they will lead you to connection not cultism, every time I am awarded it is a burden for me to do more especially for my local government that make me who I am today” he admonished.
