Ecclesiastes 11:4-6 NKJV

“He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap. As you do not know what is the way of the wind, Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, So you do not know the works of God who makes everything. In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike will be good.”

I have always wondered why many church folks get so tight handed with God and His work, and I have seen that the answers are not so farfetched.

Our text has offered us tremendous help in that regard, and here are some of the points:

i) When you observe the wind, you will not give:
This means that you are too mindful of what is happening around you. Wind speaks of rumours or current day happenings.

If you observe the news, the talk of recession, and how hard things are these days, you will not sow; you will never be able to give.

ii) Bills and budgets are the other reason why believers don't give:

When you get so consumed and engrossed with all the bills before you and the budget for all kinds of expenses, you will not sow.

This can be very sad, because it plunges you into a place where you now have to do things by your might and power. I have actually used my giving to pay for many of my bills and budgets.

Jesus said, “do not think about tomorrow because tomorrow will think about itself...But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.”

The fact is that the call to give does not always come at a good time, like when you have some leftovers or some change to spare. Rather, such demands to give comes when you are down to your last; they come when you are at a tight corner. Believe me, that is the best time to give to God. Try it and see the result.

Give and do not observe the wind, rather observe God, and you will come out fine.

Assignment/Prayer

i) Ask God for the faith to trust Him in giving, even when things are rough.

ii) Ask the Lord to make you sensitive to those times when He wants you to sow your seeds, regardless of what is at stake in Jesus Name.

Nugget

If you observe the news, the talk of recession, and how hard things are these days, you will not sow; you will never be able to give.
