One of South Africa’s most wanted fugitives, facing a R500 million fraud and corruption charge, was found
dead in his hotel room on Thursday morning, the Hawks said.

Adriaan Van Vuuren, 44, is believed to have suffocated himself by using gas inside the hotel room, Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu said in a statement.

Hotel staff found his body in the Centurion Lake Hotel when they wanted to clean his room.

Van Vuuren checked into the hotel for a one night stay on Wednesday.

Van Vuuren is accused of submitting fraudulent claims for IT services required while he was the IT Manager at Trudon, a subsidiary of Telkom.
