History will be made in Akwa Ibom State on Monday, April 17, 2017 by
4pm, at the Ultra-Modern Sports centre, West Itam in Itu LGA, as the
biggest football league ever played in the state would be brought to a
close in a final match for the year.
The Akwa Ibom community shield (supper cup)2017, which commenced
January this year, with 48 Registered teams which are winners of various
local football competitions across the state, is built to host her
finals between Alls Stars Feeders FC of Itu and sparkling FC of Etinan
in a match which promises to be first of its kind.
Sponsored by Member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. (Prince) Idongesit Ituen, the competition had 960 players and 60 referees participating in all the matches played so far in three different centres of QIC primary school, Itam, Uruan Stadium and Uyo Township Stadium, with a total of 5,000 minutes of play.
During a media conference with sports journalists in Uyo, the initiator of the competition, Prince Idongesit Ituen disclosed that the overall winner of the league will go home with a sum of one million Naira.
While shedding light on the Akwa Ibom Community shield, Prince Ituen told Journalists that, ‘‘Almost all the communities, villages and clans in Akwa Ibom state organizes one football competition or the other. This has been a yearly ritual. Young and middle age players are always involved in the competition’’.
‘‘At a certain time, I felt we should take advantage of this yearly league to groom our young players. I decided to put up Akwa Ibom Community shield. It is a competition for winners, runners up and third place in all the villages across Akwa Ibom States.
The registration is free. We want to see somebody who was a local star in the village becoming a national player. It has been three month of superlative football’’.
The finals will be preceded by third place match , scheduled to take place by 2pm. same date and venue, between Mbak FC and Bright Stars FC. Football fans in the state and beyond are already warming up to watch the match.
