The Special Adviser on Political, Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson has said that Nigeria as a nation owes the people of Eket Senatorial District in Akwa Ibom State access to opportunity.
The Honourable Special Adviser made the statement while playing host to the Executives of the Eket Senatorial District Youth Assembly (ESDYA) who paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo during the week.
He said Eket Senatorial District is of great importance to Nigeria, describing it as the economic nucleus of the nation.
Barrister Ekong Sampson commended the youth group for their role in maintaining the peaceful atmosphere of the area, which has allowed for thriving economic activities.
He said Akwa Ibom State, particularly Eket Senatorial District, has been the most peaceful area in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. This positive disposition of the people of this district and their enormous contribution to the economy of the federation should not go unrewarded, he added.
According to the Special Adviser, for a people so richly endowed, what they need is access to opportunity. This, he said, will be demonstrated by Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria indeed giving Eket Senatorial District the required support for continuity of Governor Udom Emmanuel in office for 8 years, as the rotation has been.
Ekong Sampson said Governor Udom Emmanuel has obviously exemplified good governance, competence and capacity which qualify him as the right person to help drive this opportunity for the people of his Senatorial District.
He said Udom Emmanuel’s second term in office was necessary to attain his expansive road map to diversify the economy by industrialising the State, creating jobs and business opportunities, thereby taking Akwa Ibom State into a desirable future.
He commended ESDYA for creating the critical outlook where Eket, Oron and Ikot Abasi Federal Constituencies come together to speak with one voice, chart a common course of maximizing the opportunity in their hand by the advocacy of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s continuity as the tested and trusted ambassador of Eket Senatorial District.
The Honourable Special Adviser acknowledged that his Bureau and ESDYA are on the same trajectory deepening the consciousness of the Governor’s remarkable creativity and managerial potentials.
He declared the readiness of his Bureau to partner with the Assembly in pursuit of the just course at hand.
He reiterated that the Udom Emmanuel project is like a football match that must play for 8 years to be complete. He said those who did not play in the first half of the match but are willing to join in the second half are allowed.
Barrister Sampson said the PDP remains very strong and formidable, with a larger undercurrent He cautioned against being tossed by the narrow persuasions of those decamping from the party, describing their actions as jumping from frying pan to fire.
Permanent Secretary in the Bureau, Mr. Nse Edem also commended the ESDYA for their commitment to the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s re-election.
He said God has always blessed Eket Senatorial District with great leaders from the days of South-Eastern State, also pointing out that they have always been at the centre of Akwa Ibom political affairs.
Mr. Nse Edem told Eket Senatorial District Youth Assembly that the relay which started with Victor Attah, then Godswill Akpabio has come to Udom Emmanuel’s turn. All other parts of Akwa Ibom are with you, it is now in your hand to prove your staunchness by protecting your mandate.
The Chairman of ESDYA, Hon. Joseph Mbong in his address, extolled Governor Udom Emmanuel for discovering and appointing Ekong Sampson to run political affairs in the State. He described the Special Adviser’s track record of professional performance in the various governmental positions he has occupied as commendable and him dependable.
Hon. Joe Mbong enumerated the achievements of ESDYA as an apex socio-political group in the area to include youth mobilization and rallies, fostering unity and educating youths against unwholesome practices.
Highpoints of the event was induction of Barrister Ekong Sampson as patron of the ESDYA and declaration of the groups resolve to take responsibility of ensuring Governor Udom Emmanuel remains in office till 2023.
