The election that re-produced Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Governor
of Akwa Ibok State in 2011 was quite different from that which first
produced him as Governor in 2007.
While the 2011 election was
characterized by violence, kidnapping, killing, paid and unpaid
blackmails, the 2007 election was a free for all contest with not less
than 56 aspirants from PDP alone.
Evidently, the regrettable incidence that ensued in the state prior to
2011 election, unarguably, was either because majority of the people of
Akwa Ibom State had stood their ground to reappoint Akpabio as the
Governor for the second time against few power-suckers, or Akpabio
himself wanted to reemerge against the will of the people.
But since that is not the center of focus for now, I will continue living with the answer I know on that while also allowing you, yes I mean you, to live with your answer and die with it. After all, I am not interested to know.
Nevertheless, the burning issue here is that before the innocent people of our dear state are lured or forced to believe that Governor Udom is a kidnapper or is sponsoring kidnapping, before blackmailers start branding Udom a killer, before the MUST-BE Governors of Akwa Ibom state start sponsoring media attack against Udom, before we start reading news headlines like - 'UDOM GOES DIABOLIC', HOW UDOM KILLS OPPONENT as was done to former Governor Akpabio, let us remember that the man that was intentionally branded as kidnapper, killer, devil and a thief is no more the Governor, he's not even living in Akwa Ibom and such such case should not be expected, after all, it never happened in history of 2015 election.
Therefore as case of kidnapping resurfaces ahead the 2019 re-election bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel, let those behind it (if any) know that Akwa Ibom people are used to the antiques, hence will no longer believe the falsehood, same which was leveled against former Governor Akpabio in 2011.
The scanty sympathy votes enjoyed by the plotters of the 2011 deadly political intrigues will no more be available. So kidnapping anybody with intention of deceiving Akwa Ibom people that Governor Udom is a kidnapper only to get sympathy votes will no longer move in the electoral market.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police should ensure that security apparatus are oiled and mounted where and when necessary before Udom is accused of kidnapping and killing all political opponents nursing interest for the 2019 governorship.
