The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke has condemned
the recently recorded act of killing in Ukanafun Local Government Area
which had the Transition Committee Secretary of the area as victim.
The Speaker made the condemnation earlier this week in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, while speaking at a Royal Banquet organised by the Paramount Ruler, HRM, Edidem (Dr.) Ime Udousoro Inyang.
Stating in strong terms, his position against the act, Luke said it is disheartening that in an Easter season that should encourage and promote love among humans, someone could be so heartless to have planned and executed such evil act against a fellow human.
"Based on the example of supreme sacrifice set by Jesus Christ, this is a season that should cause humans, especially the christians to reflect deeply on the purpose of Christ's first coming to the world and consequently encourage and promote love amongst each other.
But it is so disheartening that a man could plan and execute such evil act against a fellow man. This is a sign of lack of love among indigenes who should be coexisting peacefully as brothers", He added.
He prayed that the perpetrators of such act should not go unpunished, but should be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law.
Speaking on the event, the Speaker thanked Edidem Inyang and the planning committee for having initiated and successfully executed the event which he described as well planned and organised to meet the typical nature of a royal function.
He particularly commended the Ibiono Ibom monarch for his firm voice which is always sounding in support of what is right, adding that he has through this shown an integrity that has stood the test of time.
Speaker Luke also thanked the monarch for his support to the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration in the state and solicited more of such support especially for the governor's reelection bid, saying that with the monarch's kind of integrity which he said, has won him the hearts and regard of a large number of people across the state, his support stand will automatically attract a long queue of supporters for the governor.
The state's 3rd citizen also thanked the monarch for having stood with other traditional rulers in the state to give the late Paramount Ruler of Onna Local Government Area- HRM, Akwa Edidem Akpabio Udo Ukpa a beffiting burial, saying that was a show of unity and progress in the state.
The Nsit Ubium lawmaker was also full of thanks to Edidem Inyang and the entire Ibiono Ibom people for giving him a representative that has counted greatly among the support he has enjoyed from his colleagues in the legislature.
His words: "let me thank you and the entire Ibiono Ibom people for giving me an elder brother in Barr. Ime Okon who has shown me support as a brother and as as a colleague".
He further urged the Ibiono Ibom people to pray for good health and longer life for the monarch, so he can continue lending his strong voice in support of the people and in advocacy of unity and progress for the state.
Highpoint of the event was the conferment of traditional titles and award to some indigenes of the state in recognition of their support and contributions to the state and humanity. The Speaker was in the award category.
