Her performance while as the chairman of the local government was anything but good. She failed woefully and had no (befitting) projects to her name. For the period she supretended over the affairs of Okobo could be likened to the darkest period of the LGA's life.
Despite the huge allocation that accrued to the local government, there is nothing to show for it, apart from the mini park she built in Okopedi, Okobo. Her administration had been the worst since the commencement of this 6th Republic.
The administration never embarked on any capital intensive projects throughout its duration. Scholarship that always get students elated wasn't paid, project aids not given to final year students in tertiary institutions, as had become conventional. The tenure was a complete failure and leaves sour taste in the mouths of the people.
Given Hon. Felicia's relationship with the former first family of the state, the people were happy when she became the chairman of the local government.
The thinking was that, she would exploit it to the advantage of her people. But to the greatest surprise of the people, she never performed above average. She was the least performing chairmen in Akwa Ibom in general and Oro nation in particular.
While someone like Hon. Okon Tom Sung was adjudged as the best in the state, and one of the best in the country, ours was nowhere to be found.
THE 2015 ELECTIONS:
The elections of 2015 was one that came with a lot of surprises. Right from the build up to the People's Democratic Party primaries, Hon. Felicia Bassey was never given the chance to win the primaries. This was because of her catastrophic performance as the council boss.
Though the primaries was a two man race. It was between her and Hon. George Henshaw. A fine gentle man. Based on permutations, Hon. George was given the adge to win the elections.
Finally, due to her skirmishes, she was declared as the winner of the primaries. That has caused the almost silence of Okobo voice in the AKHA. The same people Hon. Asukwo Odiong and Antigah gave a voice and represented gallantly.
HER REPRESENTATIONS SO FAR, A CRITICAL ASSESSMENT:
As stated earlier, her emergence as the representative of the good people of in the AKHA is still shrouded in controversy. The reason being her dismal performance as the chairman of Okobo. Currently, Hon. Mrs Felicia Bassey is the Deputy Speaker of the AKHA.
This position gives her enormous advantages over and above other members of the House. As the No 2 member of the house, there are many projects she would have attracted to her constituency, but this is still a far cry from reality.
As the representative of the people, she is holding the power in trust of her constituents. But this she has bluntly refused to realize. She forgets that power is transient. Sooner or later, the power will disappear into oblivion. She now sees herself as a goddess that must be revered by her constituents.
If this is not the case, has it taken her donkey of years to heed her people's call for constituency briefing? It is unfortunate that the people that voted for her are now being treated as " the wretched of the earth" that must be avoided by all means.
Sooner than later, I and some apostles of pro constituency briefing movement, will take the campaign to her door step by staging a protest until our voices are held and our demands met. Its a pledge that must be fulfilled.
Her level of representation so far is very poor and of nothing to write home about. At its best, she could be likened to a bench warmer and at its worst, she is a dismal performer. She only believes in the Primitive Accumulation of Wealth.
What is she going to do with the volume of wealth amassed so far? We never sent her to the House for wealth aggrandizement, but for effective representation of the good people of Okobo.
This was the same place represented by the duo of Engr Asukwo Odiong and Hon. Efefiong Antigah. The both performed superbly compared to what we are having now. As a person, I doubt if Okobo has a representative in the AKHA.
2019 ELECTIONS IN VIEW:
Politicians are really funny, I must admit. If what I have been seeing on the social network is anything to go by, that Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey is warming up to recontest in 2019 for the same position after her dismal performance, by setting up her political machinery called UTIBE OKOBO, then, something is really wrong somewhere. After treating her constituents as a conquered people, I am just imaging how she would be going about soliciting for their votes.
If she knows what is good for her, she should just go home and rest at the expiration of her current tenure. But if she wants to test the sensibilities of the Okobo people, she should come out and vie for the position in 2019. I assure her that she will definitely meet her political Waterloo and be retired from politics permanently.
NEVER AGAIN WILL THOSE THAT DON'T MEAN WELL FOR US BE ALLOWED TO PRESIDE OVER OUR AFFAIRS.
