Akwa Ibom: Day Kinsmen Honoured Speaker Onofiok Luke

The people of Ikot Etobo Village in Nsit Ubium local government area, Wednesday, rolled out drums to celebrate their son, Rt.Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke on his recent elevation as Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

In a colourful thanksgiving service held at Ikot Etobo civic center, on the April 14, 2016, the Speaker's kinsmen including members of the clergy, royal fathers, elders,women, youths and children trooped out in large numbers to appreciate God for remembering the community.

The thanksgiving service, which was organised by Ikot Etobo Progressive Minds, featured praise and worship, choral rendition by various group, intercessory prayer sessions for the nation, Akwa Ibom state, Nsit Ubium local government area, the village, as well as the Speaker and members of the house of assembly.

Setting the tone for the thanksgiving service, the chairman of the planning committee, Cosmas Asuquo, said the event was put together by the Speaker's kinsmen so as to return thanks to God in appreciation of his benevolence to Ikot Etobo community in particular and Nsit Ubium in general.

Mr Asuquo stated that the people of Nsit Ubium have every reason to celebrate their son, explaining that his successful re-election into the house of assembly despite the many travails he went through was an indication that God rules in the affairs of men, hence the need to appreciate him for his faithfulness.

In his exhortation, Rev. Fr. Christopher Emah, who drew his text from Psalms 52 vs 5-7, and 11 vs 8, charged the people of Ikot Etobo to pray continually for the success of their son.

Describing Onofiok Luke's elevation in public office as divine, Rev. Fr. Emah noted that he was able to come this far following his closeness to God.

He challenged members of the village to live in unity and love with one another in order to reap the benefits of the good things God has begun in their midst.

In their goodwill messages, the village head of Ikot Etobo,Etteidung Nsendiok Joe, Chairman, Nsit Ubium Transition committee, Hon. Oto Edem Idiong, special assistant to the governor on political matters, Barr.Ini Ememobong, an aide to former Governor Godswill Akpabio, Dr. Enefiok Edim, and the member representing Urueofong Oruko in the state house of assembly , Hon. Asuquo Archibong, all described Rt. Hon. Luke as a covenant child who had been predestined by God for greatness.

While describing the thanksgiving service as a well thought out occasion, the people pledged their unalloyed support and solidarity to the Speaker.

In his address, Barr Luke expressed gratitude to his kinsmen for deeming it necessary to appreciate God on his behalf, assuring that he will continue to uphold the values which has seen him to his current position in the state.

The Speaker also thanked his mother, Deaconess Laurentia Luke for her motherly care, love, advice and discipline which, according to him, has contributed immensely to the shaping of his life.

Luke appreciated the Ikot Etobo village council, elders, women, youths, members of the House of Assembly, political associates, and friends for their support, assuring that he is ready to do more in his avowed commitment to the service of humanity.
