Newly
established 2 Brigade in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has expressed its
readiness to partner the Nigeria Union of Journalists for better service
to the society.
The Brigade Commander, Brigadier- General Hamisu
Hassan sought for the partnership today when he paid courtesy visit to
the leadership of the Union.
Brigadier General Hassan noted that he finds it very imperative for the
Brigade to have a better relationship and understanding with the media
as that will not only help in reorienting the people about the
oppressive impression they may have about the Military but will also
help on information as it relates to their task of defending the
country.
He added " We have always been looked as unapproachable.
This makes some people not to be comfortable to draw close and then
varify information. We promise you that we will be very open to all. We
are looking forward to a fruitful relationship ".
The Brigadier General commended the State Chairman, Elder Patrick Albert for the developmental strides recorded in the NUJ and prayed God to give him and the leadership more wisdom for qualitative service.
In his
remark, the Chairman of NUJ, Elder Patrick Albert commended the Brigade
Commander for deeming it fit to strengthen Media/Military relationship.
He promised the cooperation of NUJ to make the public understand and
appreciate their services better.
He added "In 1999 when democracy returned, Nigerians were apprehensive if it will last. But we are happy that the Military has subordinated itself to civil establishment. And we hops you will continue in doing that.
In Akwa Ibom State, we feel more secured that the Federal government in collaboration with military high command deemed it necessary to establish 2 Brigade in the State.
" What we really admire in the Military is its Unity. Every Nigerian soldier thinks Nigeria, talks Nigeria, breath Nigeria. Journalists are also patriots. We are world citizens working for the interest of the people. Thus, partnership is very imperative".
It could be recalled that the 2 Brigade which was in Port Harcourt was moved to Uyo on December 12, 2016.
The visit witnessed a tour around the NUJ Premises.
