The Akwa Ibom State Road Traffic Management Authority bill has passed through second reading in the floor of the House.
Leading the debate during plenary today, the lead sponsor, and member
representing Itu State Constituency, Prince Idongesit Ituen said the
bill when passed will among other things help to regulate the activities
of transporters and restore sanity among road users.
He noted that the bill will help in rearranging the transport system in the state and will reduce the incidence and severity of road traffic accidents.
He maintained that the agency "will enforced the use of parks, loading and off-loading terminals, bus stops and terminal".
Prince Ituen also stated that when passed, the bill will increase the revenue base of the state.
Hon Ituen who chairs the House Committee on Works and Transport pointed out that the bill will also create employment for the teeming youths.
Speaking in support of the bill, member representing Abak, Mkpat Enin, Eket, Ibiono Ibom and Uruan State Constituencies said the bill will streamline the activities of transporters in the state and commended the lead sponsor for bringing the bill.
They noted that it will control road traffic and enforced laws that govern the safe use of vehicles on the road.
