There's no doubt Hon Samuel Ufuo has been a very dynamic and intelligent MP that has given not only Mbo but Oro nation a proud representation in AKHA but the destiny of Oro as a nation goes beyond one excellent representation.
Marshall Abia dutifully highlighted the expected intrigue that may accompany the next house of assembly election in Mbo LGA come 2019 against the backdrop of the zoning system that was partially derailed by Hon Alice Ekpenyong from Uda who was returned for second term. He argued that there maybe need to allow Ufuo a second term as well.
In supporting this position he cited Hon Ifuo's good performance and to serve as some sort of compensation too for Udesi.
My advice to Mr. Marshall Abia is a simple one. Oro should be allowed to remain a credible and shinning example of zoning as it has always been to the rest of the state.
If Oro allows hypocrisy and selfishness to derail its stand on zoning at home, it would be used against her at the state level when other excuses have been exhausted.
We were all witnesses to the politics of a speaker for Oro in 2011. At Urueoffong/Oruko we also got carried away by that trick and we fell for it & tried to push for a second term for Rt. Hon Uno.
I dare say by some twist of fate Urueoffong/Oruko maintained its zoning formula. Mbo wasn't so lucky but nothing spoiled in real terms.
Mr. Victor Antai was retained two terms as well. This was an exception not the rule. The rule is that Mbo has a well articulated zoning formula which has ensured peace and progress.
If anything Mbo should see the event of that era as a sacrifice and continue to carry out actions that ensured inclusiveness and peace. At the state level one can comfortably point at a trend for 8 years tenor.
Not so at the local level. In fact the more people exposed and accommodated at the local level the better for the communities.
What happens in Mbo might have far reaching consequence on the rest of Oro. As we all know, hunger and deprivation has kept Oro perpetually at a boiling point. We should all make sacrifices to ensure peaceful coexistence in all the units.
The more we go into internal wrangling the better for our neighbors and competitors who are happier seeing us in fragments. Let's not push it. Let the Hon and most versatile MP, Hon Ufuo and indeed his Udesi kinsmen step up to higher responsibilities and let the zoning be.
So that with our scorecard at home we can continue to fight our cause at the state with unquestionable credentials when it comes to our turn to lead the state.
Let's not deep our hands in the same oil at home which we are asking our other ethnic brothers to clean up at the state level. Don't also forget that there's formidable opposition on ground which may capitalize on one slippery action to tell us "ntoooo"
