The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) has made major changes in
its leadership positions with the emergence of Rt .Hon. Ime Okon member
representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency replacing Member
representing Onna State constituency, Hon. Nse Essien, as Deputy Leader
and member representing Eket state constituency Hon. David Lawrence,
replacing member representing Uruan State constituency, Hon. Aniekan Bassey as Deputy Chief Whip.
According to the Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon. Onofiok Luke, the Majority members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly have written to the Speaker demanding the change in leadership of the House.
It will be recalled that among other alleged indecorous behaviours such as anti-party activities, the removed members are two among 3 others who recently plotted an impeachment move of the Speaker, Barr. Onofiok Luke.
Seventeen members of the House wrote to the Speaker expressing their resolve to effect the leadership change.
Briefing the Assembly press Corp after plenary today, the newly appointed Deputy Leader and Chairman House committee on information Rt.Hon Ime Okon said that it is important to let us know what happened is in standing order of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly 2011 as adopted for use in the 6th Assembly.
In order 1, rule 6,sub 5 of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly says" After due notice to house, the majority party in the house may change the leaders and whips on ground of misconduct, party discipline by simple majority vote of the members of the party in the House".
Also the Member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency, Hon. Otobong Ndem, has been appointed Chairman, Committee on House of Assembly Commission.
