The sacked Senator for Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Mr Bassey Albert Akpan has suffered yet another major setback in his desperation to retain a seat at the red chambers, after the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo had sacked him last Month, as Justice Nnamdi Dimgba backed out from the matter he filled to seek an injunction stopping the national assembly from swearing in the judiciary confirmed Senator, Rt. Hon Bassey Etim.
Justice Dimgba of the Federal High
Court 8, Abuja withdrew from hearing the application from Mr Bassey
Albert Akpan seeking the leave of Court to stop the senate president and
the clerk of the senate from swearing Hon. Bassey Etim as the authentic
winner for Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial seat in 2015 election,
citing various petitions from the civil rights activists and many
concerned Nigerians.
Justice Dimgba however returned the case file
to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and decided to back out of
the case honourably.
The Sacked senator who had supposed to
pursue his appeal at the Court of Appeal, decided to play fast, and
filed a case at the Federal High Court, Abuja, being a court of
coordinate jurisdiction with Uyo Federal High Court, who had earlier
that sacked him.
It was on the strength of the matter he filed at
Federal High Court, Abuja that Paul Usoro wrote to the national
assembly not to swear in the judiciary confirmed senator, Rt. Hon Bassey
Etim.
With the latest development, the sacked senator, Mr Bassey
Albert Akpan has no option than to vacate the seat of Akwa Ibom North
East senatorial District for the real winner of PDP senatorial primary
of 2014 and later won the general election in 2015.
Bassey Albert
Akpan was one of the PDP governorship aspirants in Akwa Ibom state in
2014, but later lost to the eventual winner, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel,
now the governor of Akwa Ibom State.
