Ecclesiastes
9:8-9 CEVUS06
“Dress up, comb your hair, and look your best. Life
is short, and you love your wife, so enjoy being with her. This is what you are
supposed to do as you struggle through life on this earth.”
I believe that life is divided into phases; the first
phase of your life is your infant/ adolescent/adult/single life, while the
second phase of your life is when you get married/ have children, up till when
the children leave your house to their various disciplines and marriages as
well. So, at the end of the day, you will go full cycle; you will end up
spending the rest of your life with your spouse alone. That is why our text
says that your spouse and all you do to him or her is all your portion in this life.
If the above is true, then life is really short, and
not as long as we make it seem. Life may seem long to you when you count in
years, but when you count in seasons/phases, you will realize that it is really
short. So, if life is that short, why do married people spend all their time
quarreling with each other, annoying each other and revenging on each other? It
makes no sense. Life is all about making choices, and this happens to be a
daily affair for that matter. Why not first choose to be happy and then
determine to make your spouse happy as well?
Let me lay down a few lessons here:
-Firstly, there is no way you can be happy when you have not properly aligned
with God as a person. When you are at peace with God, unprecedented and
inexplicable joy will flow in your heart and out of your life.
-Secondly, if your spouse is not happy, there is no way in this world that you
will be happy. You don't even stand a chance of living a long life. So, quit
trying to make your spouse sad all the time. Do everything in your power to
make your spouse happy as often as you can, knowing full well that their
happiness is and will become your own happiness.
-Take the advice from our text; dress up, comb your hair look your best; life
is short and you love your spouse. Stop looking at their faults all the time,
it will make it look as though you never loved them. Play down on those faults,
prop up and celebrate their strengths and live happily.
-Lastly, when you both are happy the children will be happy also. The best gift
you can give to your children it to love yourselves.
Be blessed.
