Philippians
4:8 NKJV
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is
anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
You
are your thinking; by that I mean, you are what you think and your life is a
product of the way you think. Our text talks about what to think, but how you
think is far more crucial, because you can be thinking about the right things
and still not produce results because of the way you approach the thinking
itself. I listened to a Ghanaian preacher on tv some time ago and he proffered
some powerful wisdom on how to think. Here are a few ways to think effectively
and successfully.
i.
Be a Practical Thinker:
Romans 12:3. Don't be too high in your thinking. Don't be unreasonable and
unrealistic in the way you think or you will never get anything done. Many
people have their heads in the sky filled with dreams that is beyond their
present resources, and never getting to do anything with what the currently
have.
ii. Be a Decisive Thinker:
James 1:8. Do not be double minded. Refuse to be here and there at the same
time. Be sure of what you want and go for it. Double minded people never
receive anything from the Lord.
iii. Be an Optimistic Thinker:
Philippians 4:8. Do away with negativity and skepticism in your thinking. Don't
wast your time focusing on the "what if nots" rather focus on
"when it works". Skeptic people are dream killers and visions
dimmers. Ask God to help you see the positives in things.
iv. Be a Progressive Thinker:
Philippians 3:13. If you are still the way you were five years ago, then you
are not a progressive thinker. If you still do things the way you did them five
years ago, then you are definitely not a progressive minded person. If your
house still has the same arrangement it had three to five years ago, then your
mind is not traveling and you are not progressing in your thought realm.
Progressive thinkers are always on the move, they are transformational, as they
are always reaching for the next thing.
v. Be a Spiritual Thinker:
Matthew 4:4. Spiritual thinking is thinking with the principles of the Bible.
It is to make the scriptures your own personal opinion. Be careful of certain
thoughts and suggestions that come to your mind, like the one satan gave to
Jesus. Always crosschecking your thoughts with what the word says is what I
refer to as spiritual thinking.
Succeed by your thinking in Jesus Name.
