Special
Assistant on Entertainment Industry to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Mr David
Sergeant, has identified with the State Chief Executive and the good people of
Akwa Ibom on the 30th anniversary of the Land of Promise.
In
a goodwill message signed by the Special Assistant on Entertainment Industry, Utang Akwa Ibom, paid tribute to the forebears
who fought gallantly for a State of their own.
"The
emergence of Akwa Ibom State was catalysed by our legends, the visionary men
and women, who worked assiduously behind the scene to make it happen. The dream
of the founding fathers and mothers of the State was that of a land of the
brave and industrious; a land of opportunities where no one would be
marginalized or left behind but where everyone would, on merit, have equal
access to the commanding heights of the State.
"They
envisioned a land of peace and tranquil; a land of relative autonomy that
fosters fast-paced growth and development unfettered by binding constraints of
rigidity.
"Today,
many of them have fallen asleep while others are still alive and vibrant. On
this day, we remember them with fondness and great respect", part of the
message read.
The
Governor’s aide observed that, Akwa Ibom State under the administration of
Governor Emmanuel, who is only two years in office, has recorded unprecedented
achievements in many areas such as resuscitation of the Entertainment Industry,
road infrastructure development, provision of heath facilities, provision of
constant electricity, industrialization, basic primary and secondary education
and many others.
“This
30 years anniversary of Akwa Ibom State is worthy of celebration by all because
Akwa Ibom State, under our ebullient and indefatigable governor; Mr Udom
Emmanuel, is sustaining extraordinary Superior Performance and has made Akwa
Ibom a cynosure of all eyes", it said.
The
message added that, the various programmes set up to mark this landmark
celebration speaks volumes in their own right about where the State started,
what it is today and the way forward.
Utang
Akwa Ibom, in the message, used the occasion to thank the Governor for always
insisting that, Akwa Ibom based artistes be given opportunity to perform during
State's events.
Sergeant
recalled that, 98 percent of Artistes that performed at the just concluded Ibom
Music Fiesta at Ibom Hall, Uyo, were Akwa Ibomites, some, according to him, had
been forgotten, the reason he eulogised Governor Emmanuel, for recognizing the
indigenous performers.
He
hinted that, no fewer than 500 Akwa Ibom based entertainers, including;
dancers, musicians, comedians among others will mount the stage today at the
Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to perform before the Country's Vice
President, Prof Yemi Osibanjo, as well as other dignitaries that will throng
the Sports facility.
"It
is in this light that we join the Government and people of the State to say
well done to the Governor that has given us the opportunity to Dakkada and
shine", he said
Describing
this year's anniversary as “the best celebration of State creation ever marked
in Nigeria”, Utang Akwa Ibom assured the Governor that, "entertainers in
Akwa Ibom are all anticipating the forthcoming gubernatorial election so that,
they can in unison give 100 percent vote to His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel,
the only Governor since the creation of Akwa Ibom, that has recognized
us".
