It is really sad and most regrettable that some people are gifted in
the skills of always criticizing and mudsling one another,just to gain
cheap popularity.
I have read severally post as regard the
roadside corn eating by Barr Onofiok Luke,the speaker of the Akwa Ibom
State House Assembly, and one wonders what is really the argument?
Some people are criticizing the speaker for stopping on the road to eat corn,which somebody took a picture and posted on the internet and it became an issue.
What crime did the Speaker commit by stopping by the roadside to eat corn?
Can any reasonable human being suggest that the Speaker was aware of the picture,and encouraged that it should be posted online? This is a cheap blackmail taken to far.
Some even opine that the picture was posted and used as publicity stunt. What type of publicity stunt?
Rt Hon Barr Onofiok Luke's humanitarian services, empowerment programmes, focused legislation, social life,which is clear and familiar to the entire Akwa Ibom People ,transcending political party lines, is enough publicity on its own.
The way this whole corn thing is being politised is too childish. Imagine somebody attempting to swear to whatever that the Speaker sanctioned whoever took that picture to post on the internet. There is a limit to which politics should be played.
Whoever took that picture and posted on the internet,may have done so,on the grounds that no matter how highly placed you are,the people in the Local communities should be carried along,or on his or her love for the Speaker, but never knew that it will be interpreted with the Akwa Ibom pull him down spirit.
On trying to find out more on this cheap ,no direction blackmail on the person of the Speaker,I had to put a call to the Press secretary to the Speaker,Mr Kufre Okon,who dismissed the story that the Speaker was aware that his picture was taken at that spot,or encouraged it to be used online as false.
The Speaker is a public personality, whose picture could be taken at anytime,anywhere. These political blackmailers should know and their paymasters, that politics is first and foremost " Local" .
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State,on several occasions was pictured eating corn,roadside mama put,drinking at palmwine joints and others,we celebrate and nickname him,the grassroot Governor.
Even River States Governor Wike,has done same,and Rivers politicians,no matter the party line,did not bend the river to quench fire. It is only in Akwa Ibom that people will interpret everything with political mindset.
Looking at this picture, how clear is this picture to be used as publicity stunt? Anybody who thinks from the head will consider the fact that whoever took this picture,was far from the Speaker, and does not show any consent of shoot.
If only we will stop unnecessary blackmail.
