Supporters of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in the
State were today spotted at Marina Junction in Eket, venue of the
commissioning of the 19.5km Eket - Ibeno Road by the State Governor, Mr.
Udom Emmanuel.
The APCs were spotted by this reporter as one of them, out of overwhelming excitement, shouted repeatedly in pidgin English, "Dis one no be politics matter...", which drew the attention of this reporter.
Curios over the chanting, the reporter who viewed the development as a 'behind the scene' report approached the more than 50 supporters gathering at one spot to cheer the Governor for an interview.
Speaking with this reporter, one of the supporters who gave his name as Prince Godwin Edoho said they came not because they want to join PDP or to declare support for the Governor's re-election, but to join other indigenes of the area to celebrate the brand new road executed by the State Governor.
According to him, the road had before now cost the people of the area a lot of economic setback as well as uncountable human lives, hence the construction worth celebration, irrespective of who constructed it.
Speaking in pidgin language, Prince Edoho said, "Oga, I no no wetin you wan hear. So we no follow bin from Eket? Na our road be dis, leave dat thing. Udom don try - e don try. Dis one no be politics matter.
Weda na Buhari do am - ooooo, or na Udom do am - oooooo, or abi an EXXON Mobil-ooooooo do am, dat one no concern us.
Wetin concern us be say dem don do the road. Dat one no mean say we ko join PDP, we be APC to the core, after all even though na APC person bin win election as Governor, em for still do the road, no be dat one we wan talk.
For dis one, Udom don try. No be campaign we dey, no be political rally we come, we bin follow come see as dem commission our road."
When asked if the party leadership was aware of their coming, the opposition members said no son or daughter of Eket whether in APC or PD will claim not to be happy over the construction of the Eket-Ibeno road and however maintained that they, informally, informed the leadership of the party, though not as a group but individually, to avoid being accused of anti-party activities.
On which faction of APC they both belong, Edoho said it is none of the reporter's business.
Among the APC supporters, were ward ecco members and leaders of various youth and women groups.
