Road Construction: Ini, Ikono, Obot Akara People Fire Prayers For Gov. Udom Emmanuel - (Photos)

The people of Ini, Ikono and Obot Akara Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday, commended the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for his passion, commitment and sense of dedication to grassroots development, just as they urged Akwa Ibomites to support the current administration in its quest to transform the State.


Some members of the aforementioned areas, who spoke to The TOWN CRIER reporter, during an inspection of ongoing roads project led by the State Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang and other officials of his ministry, said the development was an eloquent proof of Governor Emmanuel’s passion to truly take Akwa Ibom to the next level.

At Ini Local Government Area, where the State government is constructing 14.1km road which cuts across Odoro Ikpe - Ikpe Ikot Nkon to Arochukwu in Abia State, with 10m span bridge, one of the youths in the area, Edima Augustine Udi, told our reporter that the benefits and gains of the road project to the socio-economic lives of the people would be of massive proportion.

Mr Udi, however, submitted that Governor Udom Emmanuel deserves to be commended and encouraged to continually give his best to the people.

Commenting on the road project, Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang, extolled the construction company handling the 14.1km road; Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited, for its speed and quality job done as well as demonstrating that the alternative funding approach, whereby the company sources its own funds to execute the project while the state pays on convenience was effective.

Our reporter observed that construction work on the road has reached advanced stage of completion, even as the Works Commissioner expressed delight that Governor Emmanuel will be impressed when he visits the area to inspect the road project which he promised Ini people.

In Ikono Local Government Area where the State government is constructing 4.6Km road at Nnung Ukim, one of the villagers; Mrs Ekaette Uwen, said Governor Emmanuel, by the project, has kept faith with a statement he made to Ikono people that he will construct the School of Arts and Science road.

Mrs Uwen, a Secondary School teacher, who stated that “the greatest achievement one can ever have is to truly serve the people”, lauded Mr Udom Emmanuel, for the road project which is handled by Hensek Integrated Services

Our reporter observed that construction work on the road was 95 percent complete.

Akparawa Ephraim Inyang, who was beaming with smiles, congratulated Management of Hensek Integrated Services, for doing quality job and commitment to deliver the job before the allotted time.

In Obot Akara Local Government Area, where the Udom Emmanuel led government is doing a 6.4km road in Nto Edino to Ekwerre Azu in Abia State with two span 45m bridges, a Monarch, Chief Jacob Umoh told newsmen that his community was neglected over the years.

He thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel on behalf of his people for the road project which he said has opened up their community for commerce and linked them to their neighbours in Abia state.

Chief Imoh, who spoke in Annang dialect, assured that his people are waiting on the wings to repay Governor Emmanuel by voting him for a second term in office come 2019.

On his part, Engr Samuel Inyang, the Managing Director of Seyang Construction Company, the construction firm handling the 6.4Km road, thanked Governor Emmanuel for the opportunity he has accorded indigenous contractors to prove their mettle.

He boasted that, when they conclude their respective jobs, the federal government and other states will be inviting them to build major roads and other infrastructure in major cities in Nigeria.

Addressing news men, the Commissioner for Works, Ephraim Inyang, maintained that, all indigenous contractors who are handling various roads construction in the State, have so far justified the confidence reposed on them by Governor Udom Emmanuel who pledged to give them a chance.

The commissioner used the occasion to urge Federal government commissions and agencies who are doing roads construction in Akwa Ibom to emulate fine examples of our indigenous contractors, to make our State a cynosure of all eyes.

Meanwhile, all the roads inspected on Tuesday, according to the Commissioner would be inaugurated by the State Governor to mark his second year in office on 29th May this year.
