Gov Udom Revamps, Commissions Model Girls Sec. School In Abak, Announces Two New Roads Project For The Area

The Akwa Ibom state Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has opened a Model Girls Secondary School, in Abak with assurances that the school would be one of the best public schools with full boarding facilities for students, just as he instructed that it should commence full academic activities immediately.


He stated that as a government that has a signature for quality projects he was thankful to the federal government which started the project through SUBEB for him to complete. He lamented that the school was built years ago but later left unattended to but his attention was drawn to the situation of the school by the natives through his Commissioner for Education.

He said he was pleased that the finishing was completed within record time and used the occasion to appoint the Principal General of the School in the person of Mrs Idorenyin Joseph Akpabio who the governor said was presently serving as the Principal General of Trinity Academy in Iton Otoro.

Governor Emmanuel announced a new road for the community to create a smooth entry into the Model Girls Secondary School and directed the Commissioner for Works to ensure that work for the road construction commenced soon.

He also announced another road for the people of Abak ten and assured them that the road would be constructed soon just as he promised to come for the inspection of the new road leading to the Model Secondary School to ensure that the road would stand the test of time.

The governor tasked the people of Abak to pay particular attention to the school to prove that government can run a quality school as against the view of the people about government businesses.

In his remarks the deputy governor Mr Moses Ekpo said the expression of love of the governor to Abak people was a demonstration of goodness which will beget other goodnesses from Abak people, adding that the governor can be assured that with all the goodness done for Abak people, 2019 was a foregone conclusion. “I work with you your Excellency, where you go I will go with you”, the deputy governor said.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Pastor Paul Alexander, in his welcome address thanked the governor for his prompt response to the appeal of the people of the area through his office by releasing funds for the completion and delivery of the school which he said was initiated in 2012 by the federal government through the State Universal Basic Education Board, but left lying wasted for years.

He said the place was overgrown with weeds, heavily vandalized and some facilities were decaying. He informed that the school has administrative blocks, first class boarding facilities including 240 beds, a dining hall with 400 chairs and ten class rooms.

The ancient city of Abak was agog with politicians, officials of government, leaders of thought, men, women, youths, cultural groups and dancers from the entrance to the premises of the Model Girls Secondary School, Ikot Ekan, Abak to welcome His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel who was there to commission the school for immediate commencement of academic activities.

In his chat with newsmen, the Transition Chairman of Abak local government area, Barr Emmanuel Udosen was full of praises to the governor for his achievements in just two years.

He noted that the litany of projects scattered all over the three senatorial districts of the state were enough testimonies that Abak people would support him in his second term as soon as he declares his intention to re-contest.

Governor Emmanuel later inspected the 14.km Abak-Nsehe –Ikot Akpan Nkuk-Ikot Etim-Ikot Ikara Road(Phase III Section A) Ikot Ikara to Ikot Ibritam road.
