Conference of Speakers Advocate Legal Backing Of Whistle Blowing in Nigeria

Conference of speakers of state legislature of Nigeria in a conference meeting brainstormed on topical issues affecting the nation and called on the National Assembly to give legal backing to the current whistle blowing policy of President Muhammadu Buhari.


This was contain in a communiqué issued at the end of the conference in Uyo.

The law makers, while commending the federal government on its effort on combating corruption so far in the country, called for a synergy among the agencies in charge of the responsibility of fighting the menace of corruption to do so within the ambit of the law.

The speakers , also commended the National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the commencement of the continuous voters’ registration and requested that the exercise should not be limited to the local government headquarters alone but be extended to the various voting centers/units across the nation
.
Similarly, the speakers also called on the states to ensure democratically elected structure at the local government and appealed to the National Assembly to fast track the process of constitutional amendment in Nigeria.

In the same vein, the law makers equally commended the professionalism of the security agencies in the fight against insurgency in the country, and however, requested that equal measures of force should be apply in the fight against rampaging cases of kidnapping, killing by herdsmen, cattle rustling, and other criminal behaviours in the country.

They however, expressed displeasure over the outbreak of Cerebral-spinal meningitis and called on the government at all levels to re-double efforts at curbing the outbreak.

Furthermore, Hon. Kamba on a visit to the AKEES pencil and Toothpick factory at Ekom Iman, led by the speaker,Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Hon.Onofiok Luke, commended the state governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for his industrialization drive in the state.

He pledged to patronize the made in Akwa Ibom pencil and toothpick and advised the indigenes of the state not to see the factory as petty, saying that the factory would help boost the economic revenue of the state as well as providing employment opportunities for the youths.

He added that the visit to the factory has afforded them the opportunity to take home ideas that would help ameliorate poverty and unemployment in their various states.

Also speaking, the speaker, Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Hon. Onofiok Luke thanked the law makers for visiting the factory and maintained that the factory was set up as part of the industrialization agenda of governor Udom Emmanuel.

Luke, while presenting the sample of the Akees pencil and toothpick to the chairman of the conference, Alhaji Kamba said the factory has afforded the youths of the state job opportunities and congratulated deacon Udom Emmanuel for his magnificent vision.

The senior special Assistant to the governor on Technical matters and due process, Elder. Uffot Ebong while receiving the law makers in the factory, intimated them on the production details of the products added that each of the 3 pencils production lines produces at least 20 thousands pencils per day.
